TEAM SELECTION

We are aware that many of you may breeze through the selection process. The self-proclaimed Graham Henrys of the world. However, on announcement of the Irish squad yesterday it emerged here in the Lucidity offices that opinion differed greatly on a certain number 13 jersey selection. As realisation set in that everyone doesn’t in fact sing off my hymn sheet, (odd), Guy challenged me that Keith Earls was in fact the man for the job at outside centre. Luke who sits across the desk from me has opted for the child prodigy that is Manu Tuilagi, whereas I entrust the ball carrying skills of man mountain Jamie Roberts.

As is customary every season, the familiar faces of Castrogiovanni at prop, Dusautoir at back row, and Tommy ‘the try scoring machine’ Bowe on the wing, will all be prevalent across the league. It is however the contestants who dare to venture into the unknown, which can break from the pack if things take an unexpected turn. Think along the lines of Mike Brown (Eng) George North (Wal) or Wesley Fofana (Fra).

When points for full time appearances and sin binning’s then come into play, selection can become more technical for those who wish to get serious. The likes of Richie Gray at second row for Scotland and Sean O’Brien at backrow will more often than not guarantee full appearances and are great ball carriers. The latter of these points will contribute greatly to try assists. Try assists and full time appearances are what I like to categorise as the ‘sneaky points’ that often see someone do well.

Ok so you have enough of my tips now, I have a few more that I may dispose of as the tournament unfolds, or if you want to heckle me and rustle my feathers be sure to do so on the Lucidity Facebook and Twitter pages.

The tournament kicks off between France and Italy this coming Saturday at 2:30pm and it is up till then you can enter your team. Ireland takes to the field on Sunday at home to Wales. In running with the competition that culminates on March 17th between England and Ireland, and hopefully Irish Grand Slam aspirations, we will keep you updated through blog posts with league movers and shakers.

We hope you join in the craic and may the best manager win.
